When does the season of Lent end?

If you check on the internet, many sites will say that Lent ends on Holy Saturday.  At one time that could be said to be true, however for many years the Church has taught that Lent ends when the Sacred Triduum begins.  The following Vatican documents tell us that the season of Lent ends on Holy Thursday.

On Preparing and Celebrating the Paschal Feasts (1988) states the following:

“The Lenten season lasts until the Thursday of this week.”

The General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar (14 February 1969) states:

“The forty days of Lent run from Ash Wednesday up to but excluding the Mass of the Lord's Supper exclusive (No. 28).”

In other words, Lent ends at the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper
