My message to you

This blog will features messages and thoughts from Fr. Tesfu.

Some reflections...

"In our lives we have struggles of all kinds, but at the centre of all we find the presence of Christ. He is not so much found in distant places but (as the Gospel tells us) he is found in the midst of the storm, in the midst of the struggle, in the midst of daily life. And that's why today we celebrate and thank God for St. Benedict Chapel.

Because here in the midst of the daily coming and going of life at the very heart of our busy city, we now have an oasis of peace, a place of prayer, a sign of God's grace, a reaching out of his love to all."

These were the words spoken by Archbishop Thomas Collins at the official opening of St. Benedict Chapel on November 15, 2006, in our former location on the third floor of City Centre Mall. Now, 10 years later, when we enjoy a busy new location on the second floor, his words still ring true. Our former Archbishop (now Cardinal Collins in Toronto) wanted to establish a special place for the presence of the Lord in the heart of the city, and for hundreds of people each week, St. Benedict has become the oasis that he hoped it would be.

I am honoured to serve as Chaplain of St. Benedict, and I hope you will join me for a Mass celebrating our 10th anniversary on Tuesday, November 15, at 12:15 p.m.

Of course, you are always welcome to drop by whenever you find yourself in downtown Edmonton. Check out our Mass times and other services on our new website; we'd love to see you!
